Nature Homeschool Programs

homeschool_girl_reading_natureAt Living Earth School, Nature is our classroom and our skilled nature mentors are the guides.  You won’t find another program like ours out there.  A lot of programs talk about nature connection, but don’t always leave the student feeling deeply connected and engaged with nature. We have found that our outdoor classroom really makes learning real and goes far beyond information learning, but gives students the direct experience of seeing and knowing things first hand, all in a community setting.  This form of education (we call “deep nature connection”) takes learning to a whole new level.

We offer our Nature Studies weekly programs, Spring and Fall in Charlottesville for ages 7-18 and in Goochland for ages 8-15.  Below you will find our 2017 dates and details.

The Living Earth School is super excited to be bringing our home school nature connection programs to the Goochland / Richmond area.

kids_leaves_woodsThis is an opportunity for homeschoolers to come together in a community setting and learn about the natural world, themselves, and each other, through earth-based mentoring.

We’ve made such great connections and had a blast running around in the woods, making fires by rubbing sticks, tracking animals, and cooking over the fire with your kids.  Our fantastic trained mentors are super excited to be exploring the forest and making deep connections once again.

We will focus on nature awareness, survival skills (shelter, fire, water, food), wild edible plants, responsibility and respect- for self and others. This program will provide challenges, leadership, and community. LES staff take mentoring seriously, and are patient, caring, and supportive. This program will not only build good woodsman/woodswoman skills, but will increase the confidence of the kids. Get ready for archery, cooking on the fire, making a fire by rubbing sticks, tracking animals and so much more. All programs are led by experienced LES staff.

This fall seasoned woodsman Peter Yencken will be leading a Teen and Pre-Teen Group. This group is for older or experienced kids who want to be challenged, who want to follow their own curiosity, who want to go deep with a craft or knowledge and figure out how all this woods stuff applies to life back at home. This group will be with the elementary school aged homeschoolers occasionally, but generally will be off on their own at their own camp. Soupy will pop into this group on various days too. (Teens and pre-teens are also welcome to join the regular homeschool group with Soupy and Brie if the teen group does not appeal to them.)
